Non-Provisional Patent

The non-provisional patent application establishes the filing date and initiates the examination process for a patent. It is typically a long, complicated procedure, but when it is granted you are protected from infringement by others. Many inventors file for a provisional patent first to protect their invention quickly, and then file a non-provisional application.
